Cellist Maria Baylock was appointed Prinicpal Cellist of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra in 1997. She is an active chamber musician, and has performed with the Loudoun Quartet since its inception in 2002. Maria Baylocks musical career has taken her to such diverse locations as the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Disneyworlds Epcot Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and a private audience for the late John Paul II at the Vatican.
Ms. Baylock maintains a private cello studio and performs as a freelance cellist throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. She graduated with degrees in Music Performance and Music History from Catholic University and Southern Methodist University. Her research on the British-American violist and composer Rebecca Clarke led to the publication of a book by the Rebecca Clarke Society. As a church musician, Maria Baylock leads the music program at her church, Wellspring UCC, from the keyboard. She also parents three children with her husband, jazz musician Alan Baylock.
